The engine, the heart of the excavator, has unavoidable cylinder wear in the course of long-term use. However, by taking a series of measures, we can minimize the harm caused by this wear. 1. Problem Associated with Cylinder Wear

1.  Decrease in engine power: Cylinder wear leads to a decrease in sealing, which affects the engine’s compression ratio and power output.

1.  Bad break-in: The new machine or overhauled engine is not fully broken in that is put into large load operation, which will easily lead to cylinder wear. At the time, if the oil quality is poor or insufficient oil, it is more likely to cause cylinder pulling accident.

2.  Bad cooling: Failure of the cooling system or insufficient coolant will lead to overheating of the piston and cylinder liner, thus triggering expansion and deformation and cylinder pulling.

3.  Inferior fuel: The use of inferior fuel will lead to insufficient combustion, producing more combustion residue and increasing cylinder wear.

3. Way to Reduce Cylinder Wear

1.  Adequate preheating: In winter or after a long period of parking, the engine should be preheated before starting to ensure that all parts are adequately lubricated. The preheating time is recommended to be 3-5 minutes.

2.  Prevent high temperature of coolant: Regularly check the quality and quantity of coolant and make sure that antifreeze is replaced every two years. At the same time, pay attention to the indication of the water temperature gauge to avoid the coolant temperature being too high or too low to cause harm to the cylinder.

3.  Enhanced Maintenance: Replace the outer air filter element regularly to keep the air filter clean and clear. When replacing the air filter element, proper compressed air should be used to blow from the inside to the outside to avoid breaking the filter paper. The air filter element must be replaced with a new one after the number of cleaning reaches 6-7 time or the usage time exceeds 1000 hours.

In addition, the following measure can be taken to further minimize cylinder wear:

•    Use high-quality oil and oil filters to ensure cleanliness inside the engine.

•    Regularly check the wear of cylinder liners and piston rings, and replace badly worn parts in a timely manner.

•    Avoid prolonged overloading of the engine to minimize heat load and wear.
