In-Depth Analysis of Excavator Bolts Series(II):Full Overview of Bolt and Nut Classification and Specifications

1

As heavy construction machines, excavators and bulldozers play a vital role in the fasteners of their parts: bolts and nuts. In this article, we will analyze the commonly used bolts and nuts in excavators and bulldozers to help you better understand and use these key components.

1. Classification and specification of bolts

1.  Type of bolts: Commonly used bolts in engineering machinery category are divided into seven series:

–   Track Shoe Bolts

–   Plow Bolt

–   Segment Bolt

–   Sprocket Bolt

–   Roller Bolt

–   Hex Bolt

–   Wheel Bolt

1.  Strength grades of bolts

The strength grade of bolts is divided into three different grades: 8.8,10.9 and 12.9. Different strength grade bolts use different materials to meet different engineering needs.

1.  Bolt material and mechanical properties

–   10.9 grade bolts are usually made of 35# high carbon steel, and its mechanical properties include HRC28-32 hardness, tensile strength ≥1000MPa, yield strength ≥900MPa.

–   Grade 12.9 bolts use 40Cr alloy steel or 35CrMo high-quality alloy steelunser special working working conditions, with stronger mechanical properties, hardness of HRC37-42, tensile strength ≥ 1220MPa, yield strengh ≥1080 MPa.

2. Classification and specification of nuts

1.  Nut types, commonly used in excavators and bulldozers are divided into five series:

–   SQ Nut

–   Plow Nut

–   Segment Nut

–   Hex Nut

–   Wheel Nut

2.  Nut strength class

Nuts are also categorized into three strength classes: 8, 10 and 12. Different grades of nuts are made of different materials to suit different working environments and load requirements.

3.  Material and mechanical properties of nuts

–   Grade 10 nuts use 35# high carbon steel, its hardness is HRC28-32, tensile strength ≥ 900 MPa.

–   Grade 12 nuts use 40Cr alloy steel, hardness increased to HRC33-38, tensile strength ≥ 1000MPa.

Excavator and bulldozer bolts and nuts are small, but its impact on mechanical properties and safety should not be ignored. I hope the analysis in this article can help you better understand and use these key components to ensure the safe and efficient operation of construction machinery.
