Common Methods for Removing Dirt from Excavator Fuel Tanks

5

During excavator maintenance, the dirt accumulated inside the fuel tank is one of the most important factors affecting the performance and life of the machinery. To ensure the cleanliness of the fuel tank and the normal operation of the equipment, the following are three efficient and practical methods for removing fuel tank dirt:

1. Blow-by Cleaning Method

This method is suitable for the need to quickly clean the tank and not easy to disassemble the situation. First, keep a certain amount of diesel fuel in the tank as a medium. Then, the use of plastic tubes will be 19.6 to 29.4 kPa of compressed air into the bottom of the tank, through the compressed air surge to make the diesel fuel to form a tumbling state, so as to drive and suspend the impurities in the tank. During the process, the position and direction of the lower end of the air pipe are constantly changed to ensure that every corner of the tank can be effectively cleaned. After the end of the blowing wash, immediately release the diesel fuel and impurity mixture in the tank, and according to the degree of cleanliness of the discharged diesel fuel to determine whether it is necessary to carry out a number of blowing wash, until the discharged diesel fuel is clear and free of impurities.

2. Steam cleaning method

For more thorough cleaning of the fuel tank, steam cleaning methods can be used. First, completed drain the diesel fuel from the tank and remove the tank. Then, fill the tank most of the way with water and introduce steam into the water through a conduit, allowing the water to boil in the tank for approximately one hour. During this process, the gum and residual diesel molecules on the inner wall of the tank will be dissolved in the water, while the lighter impurities will float up with the water flow and be carried away. For better cleaning results, it is recommended that this process be repeated twice until the tank is thoroughly rinsed.

3. Solvent Cleaning Method

This method is used when the inside of the tank is heavily contaminated or needs to e cleaned in depth. First, wash the inside of the tank with hot water and blow it dry with compressed air to remove any remaining diesel vapors. Next, immerse the tank in an aqueous solution containing 10% sodium hydroxide to remove stubborn stains using the solvent’s dissolving power. After immersing for a period of time, rinse the inside and outside of the fuel tank thoroughly with clean water to ensure that no solvent remains. If there is rust on the outside of the tank, use a wire brush to clean it until the surface is smooth again.

Through the above three methods, the dirt in the oil tank during excavator maintenance can be effectively removed to improve the operational efficiency and service life of the equipment. In actual operation, the appropriate cleaning method should be selected according to the degree of oil tank pollution and maintenance needs.
